‘The essentials of kitesurfing’

Ocean High Kitesurfing School’s one day Kitesurfing Fundamentals course is designed to cover all the underpinning aspects of Kitesurfing such as site awareness, rigging kites, launching, landing and basic flying skills and techniques. The One Day course does not introduce you to the board however, as there are a lot of kite skills to learn before looking at getting up on the board.  The board is introduced on day 2 of a 2 Day or 3 Day course. The One Day course will count towards a 2 or 3 day course and if you are hooked and want to carry on with the sport then you can ‘bolt on’ either the 2nd or 2nd and 3rd days to complete the ‘Progression’ or ‘Independent’ kitesurfer courses. The cost of additional days are £100 per day. If you are committed to take up kitesurfing then its worth considering the 2 Day ‘Kitesurfing Progression course’  or  3 Day ‘Independent Kitesurfer’ course and save money booking the full courses in advance.

Kitesurfing Fundamentals follows the internationally recognised IKO Level 1 programme and is a mix of both theoretical and practical kite skills. The overall aim of this course is to fully prepare the student for the introduction of the board that comes with the 2nd Day of a 2 Day or 3 day course and provide the skills necessary to ensure that they’re up and riding as soon as possible.

The kitesurfing lesson takes place at either Marazion or Gwithian, with typical days kitesurfing instruction lasting 5 hours. Skills learnt will include...

-Kite rigging and safety systems

-Site assessment

-Develop kite-handling skills

-Controlling the kite with a harness

-Understanding communication signals

-Assisted launching and landing

-Downwind, directional and up-wind body dragging in the water

-Water re-launch

-Self-Rescue procedures

* Courses run for 5 hours. A minimum of 2 persons are required to run the courses (unless on 121) in the event that another person is not booked in, group booking will convert to 121 and be 3h long.
