Ocean High’s success is built on providing the highest quality, internationally accredited courses to get our students riding their boards quickly and safely.

We offer 1-to-1 or 2-to-1 lessons by the hour and also ½ day group taster sessions for up to 4 people. Please give us a call to discuss what would be most suitable to you.

We use the latest 2-way Bluetooth radio helmets from BbTALKIN for all lessons that have greatly accelerated the speed of learning due to their amazing clear communication over long distance. It’s very worthwhile considering taking 1-to-1 lessons so that you can learn at your own pace. We have had great success since starting to use these helmets and have had some beginners up and riding in 5-6 hours of 1-to-1 lessons. This allows shorter ‘blocks’ of lessons that can be more productive and gives you more time for your other holiday activities or family.

If you want to learn with a friend, then it can be great fun to learn together so the taster or 1 or 2 day courses may be the best option.

All equipment and wetsuits are provided by Ocean High and you will learn using the latest 2024 kites and kit from Ozone (available to buy at our own Lodey Kite Loft shop at discounted rates). Our instructors are British Kitesports Association certified and fully insured. Above all, you will have fun and will be learning at one of the UK’s most stunning kitesurfing locations, right here in Cornwall.

1/2 Day Taster

2.5 hours:  £150 1 on 1 £ 112.5pp for 2 to 1 £90pp with a family or friends group (for 3 to 4 people)

In a packed two and a half hour session you will first get to grips with a power kite, and then as your skills, confidence and ability to both find and use the wind window develop, we progress into the shallows and onto kitesurfing kites and the exhilaration of water-based body drags, the very first step in learning to kitesurf.

We do not introduce the board at all during this taster course as you need to have more time under your belt before putting the kite and board together but getting pulled through the water behind a large kitesurf kite is a whole lot of fun!

  • Introduction to kites and equipment

  • Where to kite safely

  • Launching and landing

  • Introducing the wind window

  • Simple water-based body drags

Personal Coaching

1 to 1 coaching – £60 per hour

Having time with your instructor on a one-to-one basis allows you to learn at your own speed and allows you to concentrate on exactly what you need to do to progress rapidly. You will not be held back by another student that may not grasp things as quickly and we can tailor the lesson to your exact requirements.

For more advanced kitesurfers it is the ideal way to focus in on specific areas of riding and often as little as an hour of instruction can save days, if not weeks of frustration.

  • Kite rigging and safety systems

  • Site assessment

  • Develop kite-handling skills

  • Controlling the kite with a harness

  • Understanding communication signals

  • Assisted launching and landing

  • Downwind, directional and up-wind body dragging in the water

  • Water re-launch

  • Self-rescue procedures

2 to 1 coaching

£45 per person for one hour

For just £45 per person per hour, learning with a friend or family is a great way to get into the sport or, if you are at the same level, develop your skills together. By taking it in turns and watching what your partner does will allow you to see when they do things right. More importantly, it will also show you when they go wrong and you’ll be able to see exactly what you shouldn’t do!
